Understanding a
Diamond Laboratory Report

The 4 C'

Carat - weight

The weight of a diamond is expressed in carats.
There are 5 carats in one gram.
The carat weight is divided into points,
there are 100 points to the carat.
A quarter of a carat is called a 'grain'(0.25ct.)
The bigger a diamond is the rarer and therefore dearer it is
ie.: a 1 ct. diamond can be four/six times more expensive
than a similar quality stone of half it's size.
Gemmological laboratories use digital highly precise scales
to determine weight and give weight up to three decimals points.
Please find below an approximate size expressed as a diameter to:
0.25ct......................3mm
0.50ct......................5mm
1.00ct....................6.5mm
1.25ct.....................7.5mm
1.50ct.....................8.5mm
1.75ct........................9mm
2.00ct......................10mm
